What To Know When Struggling With Apnea.

October 8, 2012

One of the major symptoms caused by sleep apnea is poor quality sleep. In many of these cases someone with sleep apnea can get good results by making a few positive lifestyle changes. If you don’t take care of your body and mind, sleep apnea can occur with a vengeance. Do you have a smoking or drinking habit? Get rid of behaviors that are not good for you. Both have a negative influence on your air passages. Inflammation is caused by smoking and alcohol use causes your airways to collapse, both of which can produce sleep apnea symptoms. If you are unable to walk away from these habits forever, at least avoid them prior to sleeping.

Never allow your other breathing problems, such as allergies, to amplify. Always make sure that other breathing problems are under control if you experience symptoms of sleep apnea. Allergies should be remedied right away. If you have a cold, treat it immediately to avoid increasing the risk of sleep apnea events. It may help you to use nasal spray prior to bed every night. Although a lot contain chemicals, in moderation they can help you sleep better at night. They all generally work by drying the nasal passages. Children can also suffer from sleep apnea. If you find your child is innatentive, always tired or uses their mouth to breath and not their nose, they may suffer from this condition. Sometimes parents mistakenly think these symptoms have to do with something like ADHD, and it is best that you talk to your child’s doctor to find the true culprit.
